the "pick me girl" attitude of the author is REEEEAAAALLY pushing through in the last bit of the book. so glad i got to get more in depth about Beatrix's complicated relationship with her family in this book but oh boy does it come at a cost...

all hail beatrix, one of the first self-publishers!
this book often condescending (towards the reader as well as some of the figures of which it speaks) but at least the author still included the delightful juxtaposition of Beatrix not seeing marriage as the be-all and end-all, while at the same time believing a happy marriage to be the crown on a happy woman's life (tho not, you notice, the sum of it)

Good heavens, she met and impressed Tennyson as well??!
I'm sad that this wasn't included in Miss Potter but i can sorta see why they made the narrative choice.
it's also DELIGHTFUL to see how Beatrix came into her land trust ideas
