Their footsteps seemed to echo forever as they walked through the passageway. The air held a perpetual chill, and the light of Will's torch seemed all too small when compared to the oppressive darkness around them. Michael stayed close to Will, and more than once he actually stepped on the other man's heels. Vanessa walked more confidently, but even she stayed close.

Wendy let out a laugh. "What about you? What trouble would you get in?"
"That's the odd thing. I can't picture myself as a child, not even there. You were right about that. I don't remember what it means to be a child anymore." He sighed. "I should get some sleep. I'll have a long couple of days ahead of me if the fairies do come tonight."
Wendy's smile faded. "Promise me you'll say goodbye before you leave."
