One very sad part was when Rue gets stabbed with a spear. On page 233 its about the district 1 boy who stabs Rue, how the wound the spear caused was beyond healing and that she was going to die. "One look at the wound and I know it's far beyond my capacity to heal. Beyond anyone's probably" says Katniss (Pg233).This shows that Katniss felt helpless when Rue got stabbed and there was nothing she could do to help her.

One shocking part was when Cato died and left Katniss and Peeta as the "winners".Claudius changed the rules again stating there can only be one winner even though she said two earlier in the game. "The earlier revision has been revoked. Closer examination of the rule book has disclosed that only one winner may be allowed"(pg342). This sudden change shows how the gamemakers wanted Katniss and Peeta to fight to death.

One shocking part was when Thresh was about to kill Katniss and decided not to.Instead, he told her to run away in order to repay Katniss for showing love to Rue and honoring her memory. "Conflicting emotions cross Thresh's face" (p,288).This shows how people can change their mind and do something unexpected like Thresh in order to do the right thing.However, next time she won't be lucky and he will try to kill her.

One shocking part was when Katniss realized Peeta had formed an alliance with the Career tributes. On pages 160- 162, Peeta and the Career tributes come and kill the girl that is sitting below Katniss. Katniss overhearss them that they are using Peeta to get to her. Peeta says "I'll go finish her and let's move on!" This shocking news makes Katniss realize that she can't trust anyone, especially Peeta.

One sad part was when Peeta tells Haymitch and Katniss that his mother believes Katniss will win the games instead of him. On page 90, Peeta's mother believes that district 12 will finally have a winner because of how good Katniss is. "I see the pain in his eyes and know he isn't lying" (pg90). This shows how Katniss sees the sadness Peeta feels when he tells Haymitch and her that his mother believes in her not him.

One shocking part was when Prim was picked to go to the hunger games. On page 21 it talks about how shocked Katniss was when her younger sister was picked from district 12 to go to the huinger games. "There must have been a mistake. This can't be happening. Prim was one slip in thousands"(pg.21). This shows that is was a shocking part when Prim was picked to go to the hunger games.
