I confess I'm struggling with this a bit, almost entirely due to the audiobook narrator. He has an annoying vocal fry to his voice that becomes especially troublesome when his voice rises and makes some of his character voices unbearable, especially when he attempts a female voice. Further, the intonation is often at odds with the written description.
