I like the way Hester is coaching the Raiders team. Unlike previous coaches, Hester cares about his players. He cares about making a difference in their lives and helping them become successful men. Although they are not winning national titles, Hester is paving the way for his team to "beat the system."

It's interesting to read about the different backgrounds of the kids that play football for the Raiders. Many, if not all of them, have been struck with some sort of tragic disappointment in their lives and football has been their outlet. For example, Booby has lost his two brothers and his mother. Yet, he still maintains a positive attitude in school and on the field. This book is very interesting.

I decided to read this book because I've always had an interest in the lives of elite athletes. Many athletes come from difficult backgrounds and have to overcome many challenges in order to become successful. Poverty is something many people have to deal with and I want to read about how athletes escape these horrible circumstances.
