I read this book when I was in high school and it stuck with me as a good read. I am rereading it now to see what I think decades on. I am struck, now, by how science was able to be envisioned in a future fashion but not women's roles and power structures and religion. Perhaps that's why we needed an Anne McCaffrey to enter the SciFi genre and give women a badly needed update.
