I finished the book. A major conflict in the novel is between Hayley and Trish. Hayley hates Trish because she left her and her dad when she was younger. She also hates Trish because when Trish was taking care of her after her dad went to war, Trish was struggling with alcoholism and was always drunk. Because of that conflict, Hayley refused to accept that Trish was only there to help her and her dad, both times.

Right now in the book, Hayley is getting taught how to swim by Fin. Previous to this, she was trying to apologize for how she acted before Thanksgiving. Hayley has shown a lot of bravery in this book. One specific example of when is when got Fin to drive her to the shady bar where her father had passed out in the middle of the night. She went in, dragged him into the car, cleaned him up, and went back home.

I just started the book recently, so I am not very far in. So far Hayley's dad quit his job, and did not tell her, and she has had detention 11 times, even though it is only the beginning of school. I wonder what happened to her dad/ why he is in the situation he is in. I also want to know how he is making money (since he quit his job). I'm also wondering how she is going to graduate high school (she is a senior).
