I actually started reading this book 2-3 weeks ago. It is very slow going for me. I have learned fascinating facts about 1833 New Orleans, the various statuses of people of color, and medicine back then. That being said, I am going to abandon this book. I am half way through and still unable to get into the plot. Apparently this story is based on a true-and scandalous incident in NO, but I just can't get into it
