The action falls flat, at least to me. It's all mindless spilling of guts and bodily fluids. There's no sense of struggle, and the monsters aren't that threatening as they're mangled by the smallest efforts from characters that have no combat training.

Also, the pop culture references feel out of place.

Now the monsters got interesting. This could've been a decent short story, maybe. I don't think any ending can make up for how bland most of the novel was. The characters, the situations, the themes, nothing was strong enough to carry the story.

Chakrit is a boring character, no depth at all. Ana and Rachel technically have some depth I guess, but not much. Also, it makes no sense how people in this book turn insane, there's nothing lovecraftian about it. Giant spiders and mutants, really.

Let's see if the last pages can convince me otherwise. I doubt it.

This book is crap. I don't see any merit in its existence at this point.

It's written like a movie, but not in a good way.
