I love this book even more because James Herriot has an obvious love for the animals he cared for. Even when the outcome for an animal is not good, he doesn't draw it out to make it all dramatic and sad, which makes all of the stories so far enjoyable. It is very interesting hearing how things were done in veterinary care in the 1930's and how far they have advanced in some way but not in others.

In all these years, I can't believe that this is the first time I am reading this book and I am pleasantly surprised at how closely the show on PBS follows some of the stories. It is such an enjoyable read and I can definitely imagine rereading this one.
