Chief Justice Taney challenged Lincoln’s constitutional authority to suspend habeas corpus. The US Marshal wrote in private notes that Lincoln issued an arrest warrant for Taney over the dispute. It was never exercised, and the story was never verified, but if true—wow. A President issuing a warrant for a Supreme Court Justice?!
