Now I'm *really* engaged. I thought I was before, but book's world is so weird and fabulous it's flavouring real life. I'm really enjoying Lucius' traveling and the people he has met, and the unfolding catastrophe everywhere (that's not a spoiler, it's a guess!).

Ooooh there are sexy bits too! Very well done because I care about the characters so much.
I feel like I ought to say something negative, so this is more of a review and less of a gush, so I will confess that once (or maybe twice) I have jumped over one of the longer passages about the cities in order to find out what happens to the characters.

The further I get into the book, the more I enjoy it. It's a very rich and complex world and I have a lot still to discover about how everything is connected.
The characters are complex and no one is either completely good or (well, with the exception of one person, maybe) completely bad. I like that very much, and it reminds me of Carol Berg's Collegia Magica characters (whom I loved as well!)

Just started, and interested in the world, though I'm not sure how to describe it -- like regency and fantasy. So there are dresses with hoops, and hackney cabs, and goblins...
