I don't know what I would say to the author of this book because I'm not too far into it, but I would probably ask about where he got the inspiration to write this book. I'd make sure not to ask anything that would give away spoilers, that'd be a bit weird for me to do that. Plus I've heard that this book was sad, and for it to be sad I need to not know what happens that is so terrible. I would definitely be polite.
