An October Ride focused on beautiful nature descriptions and a potentially haunted, run-down parsonage... Absolutely lovely.

Ah here we enter the dreaded short story territory. If you must know one thing about me, it's that I've seldom done well with anything shorter than a novella. Jewett managed to weave together vignettes into a cohesive story so well in her novels; I am missing the red thread here, which makes it a bit harder to focus on the lovely writing. Nonetheless I am intent on actually finishing my reads in a timely manner.

Feeling personally victimized by this paragraph on how idle chatter disturbs the sleepy birds. What do you mean silence on a walk is a think that doesn't have to feel awkward?

You know it's a historical novel based on the sheet amount of lobster that is consumed per day (I don't want to think about how expensive these meals would be in current day New England )
