Omg I've never realised that the reason why the vanishing cabinet which Malfoy has to fix is broken in the first place because of Peeves!!! Love that!
Generally, The Deathday Party is one of the best chapters in the entire series! It's such a shame it was never brought into the movies

Dumbledore knew that the Basilisk's last victim was Moaning Myrtle and he (being o-so-brilliant) never had the idea to ask her how she died????

Salazar Slytherin can't have made the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets the girls' lavatory, right? I mean, he lived "a thousand years ago" and as far as I know there was not plumbing in the 10th century. Who then, did create this entrance? Tom Riddle? Or were there other heirs of Slytherin?

I just looked up how long 20 feet are and I have to say... A somewhat longer than normal snake makes more sense than the giant beast they had in the movie... At the same time, I find the whole deadly eyes more convincing with the movie version of the Basilisk

I have never understood why Rowland made the Mandrakes so human-like. I get it's supposed to be whimsical but having Madam Pomfrey tell Filch how they have become "moody and secretive, meaning that they were fast leaving childhood [and] 'The moment their acne clears up, they'll be ready for repotting again and after that, it won't be long until we're cutting them up and stewing them'" seems very cruel and harsh.

What happens if someone is leaving Dumbledore's office at the same time another person is entering? Does the staircase revolve downwards first to let the person out and then switch direction? ...

"'I wish people would stop talking behind my back!' said Myrtle, in a voice choked with tears. 'I do have feelings, you know, even if I am dead.'" - case in point

Myrtle is without a doubt THE most tragic character in the entire series. Can you imagine being stuck forever in the body of a 12 year old girl after dying a really scary death. Imagine the reason for dying being bullying and then being bullied even when you're dead... The girl is 12 for Merlin's sake, and Hermione I'm-so-righteous Granger has nothing better to do than say it's "awful" to go to the loo with her there

A much needed break from Pat Bateman's mind...
But the question is why do only rich wizarding families own house-elfs? They don't pay them so that can't be it...
