Bloody annoying: many books I read insists on making the character's growth include some sort of financial excess (Jonah throwing around his money, owning this and that, having employees, blah blah). Such a brainless following to current social definitions of happiness and success. Can't they work as janitors (and not the HEAD janitor, for fuck sake) and be successful? Happy? Not striving for more in the career-wise?

Five stars for the first few chapters. Five stars for scenes here and there. Five stars or the FiRST sex scene. One star for the joints and plot points, for the development and awkward pacing, for the subsequent sex scenes. Two to three stars for moments sprinkled throughout. This was highly unsatisfying.

Wellll! The chapter with the culmination of the Ex's unstable mindscape was gooood! Empathetic, suspenseful, careful, believable, and just wonderful to see the "bad guy" ex is human too.

Dane does assplay scene so very well but she hurts her own story by rubbing for too damn long and too damn frequently. Makes me want to swat her fingers away, growling, "Steak, good. Steak every second with no sides, no drinks, no conversation, no atmosphere? Tiresome. Yummy diminished."

Well, that third sex scene was entirely "run to the bathroom--it's a commercial." What's with recent m/m books needing to have both partners willing and eager to be both bottom and top? Just seems like a insipid sycophant politically-correct move. Anyway, way too soon for another pages-long sex scene. But the tension of the ex and the temperamental Jonah is still there, so I'm gonna keep reading after these messages.

Definitely compulsive reading! Dane sprinkles liberally with salt and sugar and knows how to make a reader keep sticking his or her hand into the bag while glued to the book's world, even while knowing said world is cheap thrills and chiaroscuro drama! Loves!
