Bonnie Dee and Summer Devon: always, always a fabulous read. (I still have scenes from Jungle Heat playing in my mind!) So, here we have a contrast that sets my mind a whirl: a boy who has lived a pious, isolated, life, surrounded by and accepting guilt-religion and the rough and tumble honesty of an eclectic mix of carnies. And is that h/c I see?

And I love love love how the two "freaks," the ones who stand around and do nothing but be tall or be fat, are gaining ground as individuals with talents, interests, personalities.

The MCs have surprised me; they are quite equal and independent and yet need each other. There are no simpering mansels or posturing knights, only real men. (Not that mansels and aggressive beasty men aren't, yanno, awesome in their own rights; it's just a refreshing change here.)

The contrast of the carnival folks and the uber-conservative Christian towns is brilliant: there's no pressure to hide half of who you are if you're outside the (unreasonable) expectations of purity.
