"Chinese culture was not easily exportable. Its philosophy/religion was deeply embedded in race and religion." Utter nonsense. One feature of Chinese history that repeats itself again and again is the sinicization of 'barbarian' peoples on its borders. Really, not confidence-inspiring. It makes me wonder what other shoddy research I'm being fed.

Not very good, so far. The sentences are very stiff and written without an iota of flair. Not a compelling read despite my inherent interest in the subject matter. I hope it gets better, because I'm committed to reading the whole thing.
