Well. Uh. This got SO gross SO fast. Reading this in the dead of night was such a huge mistake it isn't even funny

We are reaching levels of JRPG storytelling previously thought impossible for a Yusuke Kishi horror novel

I just read 30 pages worth of text. Half of it was like an encyclopaedia entry on a biological topic. Half of it was like an encyclopaedia entry on ancient mythology. Literally no plot developments of any sort happened until the last 5 pages or so. And I enjoyed ALL of it.

It takes a lot of talent to make an endless stream of exposition interesting to read, I think.

oh you use uhhh ummm erm "メタンスルホン酸エチル" in your research that is SO quirky of you anyway can we talk about those angels chirping God dude they're so loud

every second review on bookmeter talks about how nasty this book is but barely anyone is brave enough to state that the true horror lies in reading a random dude go the hell off about his highly specific field of biological research

that writer wasn't lying those angels can chirping

ok i'm getting actually hooked at this point

the overall atmosphere so far leans towards being unnerving and mysterious rather than outright scary but at the same time there's a lingering promise of ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE things on the horizon. delicious buildup

oh no
