So far, no one has really changed in my book. There really has been no, "a-ha!" moment, where it is spelled out for you, nor in my analysis of the book. You can tell change will take place, it is quite obvious from what I've heard, but it is not yet truly apparent, and a cautious man like me is not ready to make any assumptions.

The conflict felt by Pip is external. In a recent scene, he feels anguish by being slapped and verbally abused by a little girl, about his age. This makes him mad, and he can't do anything about it. He must go and deal with her every time he is asked, and this would obviously hurt a 6 year old boy. If it was just verbal abuse I would call it Internal, but since she physically hits him, I have to say external.

One of my characters is Joe. Joe is a simple, but insightful character. He all around, seems like a good person. However, he married an abusive jerk of a wife. Why? He says it was because of his mom, which was a slave a day, and he doesn't want do repeat the thing his dad did. Also, he chose her, because he admired the way she raised Pip,'by hand'. The combination of this makes him satisfied with his marriage to her.

Pip hates this one person named Estella. Estella is a brat and a bad person, who enjoys hurting Pip. Pip thinks she is pretty, but hates her personality. The reasons for this are pretty obvious. She slaps and calls him names several times, and she is trying to make him feel bad. Literally trying. Pip tries to be nice to her. Also, Pip doesn't like the place she lives, which is full of weird people and cryptic ladies.

It fits my goal more than my history. I have always wanted to bring my reading up to a new level. I feel like I am on the highest level of tier 3, but reading more classics will bring me up to tier 4 or 5.

So far, Great Expectations is composed of a young boy, Pip, at a graveyard grieving his family, when a dirty homeless man comes out of no where, and threatens to eat him if he doesn't give him a file and food. That's about it.
