I'm a little sad… the writing is stilted and rather tedious. The phrase "what with…" has provided unnecessary explanations several times, as if the reader is incapable of drawing conclusions, and a lot of the sentences are "I said…" "Then he said…" "I hoped that…" all back to back : (
