Holy cow, that is...one heck of an ending, Saunders. And since you died a couple years ago, I can't even write to ask what you thought about it, what motivated your decisions... Because this is an amazingly dark, downbeat finale to an epic fantasy series. Yes, the world is saved, but everything that made the hero capable of saving the world also makes him incapable of living in the world he has saved. So he doesn't.

That chapter ended on an excellent juxtaposition. The relief & triumph of the Kandisa's fleet, the fury of the Erriten, but also the horror of the Monomatapa's army as they witness what has been done to the returning scouts...
