We are introduced to Malalas homeland of Swat Pakitstan, and the history of it. The beautiful valleys, rivers, and flower fields all give her a strong tie to Swat. We learn about her Mother, Father, and brothers. We are introduced to the school her father runs to help better education in girls. Lastly, we pick up on how unfair it is for girls in Swat, and how lucky she is to have a father that encourages.

As we are introduced to Malalas incredible story, we start to get a understanding how different her life is, with the constant worry of one of her family members or herself being shot, the discrimination she faces as a women, and being one of not many girls that goes to school in Swat, Pakistan. One thing I find really interesting is how different Malalas life is just because she is female its not like that here.
