Strengths - decent prose, excellent representation of the Coptic diasporic experience, covering difficult topics, genius in naming the chapters after Biblical books and weaving references in seamlessly

Weaknesses - rather judgemental, shallow and close minded depictions of other religions, yoga and philosophy.

- A massive thank you to Monica Hanna for getting me this book!

- As a child of the Coptic Diaspora, this book makes me feel so deeply validated and understood so far.

- Soundtrack for the book - anything by Coptic Oud on Spotify

message 2: by Natnael Tefera (new)

Natnael Tefera Mulatu Of course there is!

message 3: by Natnael Tefera (new)

Natnael Tefera Mulatu They are the ones that want you to pray on time, and get sad when you don’t follow on what you started.

message 4: by Mark (new) - added it

Mark Rizk Farag 9. If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm(K) will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels(L) concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;(M)
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

Does this not mean that God will command angels to walk with us when we pray for protection?

The typical narrative of guardian angels (and the one in the book) speaks of each person having their very own guardian angel assigned just to them, who judges their behaviour. Is this something we believe?

message 5: by Kirolos (new)

Kirolos Shahat Open Coptic Reader and go to the First Hour of Monday Pascha (Special -> Pascha -> Monday -> Monday Day -> 1st Hour). Then read the "Homily of Abba Shenouda the Archimandrite"
