The current conflict in the walking dead 3 is Negan. He pretty much kills everyone that he sees. So you probably thinking why doesn't rick just kill him well if he does his men will just kill him because he doesn't really go anymore without his men. So Negan just robs a bunch of people and takes them for ransom. So currently their trying to figure out what to do with him.

Ricks number 1 goal in the Walking Dead is to survive because theirs no way to get out of that mess his goal is just to survive and until he dies one day. Most of his motivation is his son Carl, he keeps him going everyday and will do anything for him.
