So I'm starting to figure out my fascination with these books. The author has a very peculiar way of writing that has you route for the protagonist, which is usual... unusual is the fact that the protagonists are actually highly immoral and to some extend even criminal individuals. Yet, you find yourself oddly on their side. Very interesting viewpoint and smart writing on the author's part.
