Hm. Considering that these are the "Inseperables", there's a lot of not-understanding and mistrust going on between these Musketeers. Their chemistry is not that of Dumas' original bromance. But I like that the chapters are written from different POVs and that we get a look inside each of their heads.

Athos is the still water that runs deep, Aramis can’t keep it in his pants, Porthos is permanently hungry, and young d’Artagnan gets underestimated by everyone. This reads like a Dumas/BBC Musketeers remix so far, and I’ve read worse.

So I found another Musketeers pastiche which I’m sure will NOT love up to Dumas’ standards or my expectations, but I NEED to immerse myself in this world again and romp around with these characters. I’ll take any scrap at this point. The start isn’t too bad, even if the characterizations seem a bit off already. We’ll see how it goes.

Veronica The different POVs sound cool! Although: yes, hmmm in regards to their brotherhood! Miscommunication, yes, but you can only shake that foundation of understanding so much before you mess with the best brotherhood of all!

Papercuts1 I’m actually kind of liking this pastiche. No, this isn’t the bromance as we know it. But there IS talk of “I trust you with my life”, and the switching POV’s give us a lot of insight what these very different men grapple with - also when it comes to understanding each other. Right now, our closed-up and often drunk Athos keeping his past from his brothers is not making things easy for Aramis. And I get why Aramis is upset and mad at him.
