I have just finished "The Guns of August" and will begin reading Tuchman's 2nd work included in this volume, "The Proud Tower" soon. Guns of August is an awesome narrative history of the first month of World War I. In it both sides failed to gain a victory and so they were doomed to 4 more years of horrible trench warfare.
