The sky above was dark as sin.

‘She reached down between us, and I gasped as I felt her fingertips running up and down me through my leathers. Her kiss deepened, desire bleeding into me, and though we knew this was a sin, somehow that only made us burn the brighter with it.

 ‘“I was not always a Seraph of the Order, shitblood,” Talon growled. “I earned my aegis when you were still a tadpole paddling about in your godless father’s janglesack.”

 ‘“We have strong stone around us, Bouchette. Liquor in the cellars and water to be blessed. Holy wheels and silversteel.” I looked around the group, fire in my eyes. “We don’t need soldiers to win through this. We need only stand together.”

And lifting my foot, I stomped up and down on the wretched’s head with my silvered heels until its skull burst like ripe fruit, rotten brains splashing the straw.

 ‘See, I never understood that. Why pride is looked on as an evil. You work hard at something you’re not born good at? Damn right you should be fucking proud. There’s nothing comes of quitting besides the knowledge you didn’t finish.’ 

‘“Fuck me,” I breathed.
‘“The Testaments name sodomy a deadly sin, so I’d rather not.” Talon offered a brief smile. “But you’re very pretty, de León, and I appreciate the offer.”
