One of the things I have loved so far is how the narrator combines awful events with colors. In the horrors of life, the narrator manages to keep himself sane by focusing on colors. He focuses on the tones of the sky, of the ground, of the smoke, in an attempt to ignore all the dead people around him. What I really like about this is that it has made me think how I tend to oversee the colors of life.
