It’s still truly funny to me that the thing that launches the whole weird interstellar war is people starting clubs.

I am in the final movements of this now and while I don’t think it’s the “ultra-super-serious and importantly mature” science fiction it was sold to me as, I can see why people would be super into these.
It’s only really NOW starting to get really interesting as the Imperium is finally being faced with “Xenos” that have direct connection to them. I dunno I love Abnett but this has been kinda basic

I’m still not loving this like I hoped I would, but it’s very charming to me that the main driving crux of this book is people making little clubs within clubs and how much it freaks people out.

Samus is the man beside you.
Loving the hard right this thing just took into cosmic horror.

Again, I’m very struck at just how much different of a flavor of 40k this is without sacrificing the core “experience”. Lots of backstory and detailing here too that has been really fun. Was NOT expecting how dread filled and melancholic it is. Knowing what I know about the property now makes it make sense but I think I would pick up on it regardless of that context.

It is crazy how distinctly different of a flavor of 40k this is, while also still being a tremendous example of how it works and how satirical it is. I can see myself getting WAY into these along with the “present day” 40k franchises.

Went ahead and restarted this because (why the hell not?) I got the paperback. Still one helluva opening and I’ll ALWAYS pop for a dramatis personae.
