All four main characters had "survival" motivation to kill Simon, who ran the gossip app. The day before his death he had planned to release gossip on all four main characters. They are all suspects because they did not want their reputation to be ruined by him, considering they are all pretty popular.

The caregiver in my book is a high school baseball player jock, who you wouldn't expect to be super nice. After the four main characters watched their classmate Simon suffocate to death, Addy the popular pretty girl, was very on edge and Cooper was their to help calm her and give a ride home. Even though Cooper was not very calm himself he knew it wouldn't be good to display his uneasiness around her.

In the beginning of the book the tone is very straightforward, it talks about the five main characters lives and a gossip app which is run by a student, who later gets murdered. Since Simon runs the gossip app which could ruin many peoples lives in school, people tend to remain neutral around him. After he was murdered the tone changed to being tense.
