After their little “date” Edward drops Bella off and goes home! he is very determined to go back to Port Angeles and catch those men that tried to harm Bella but before that went to get Carlisle’s advice and just talk it out since their big rule is to not harm humans unless it’s in the name of justice. Carlisle understands where he’s coming from and decides to help him and no more serial rapist.

Edward and Bella continue their discussion in a diner and edward explains the extent of his abilities and what he “truly is”. Bella is surprisingly not scared or repulsed by him and who he is so they continue talking. Bella tells him it’s too late to leave her life now that they’ve gotten close after edward started doubting his decision to let her in.

Edward was following Bella on her trip to Port Angeles and he saved her from the harassment Bella faced as she was walking back home to the meeting place that they had agreed to before she left. The car ride was so tense and Edward was seething with anger because he felt he had the responsibility to keep her safe. They get to a diner and Jessical and Angela were already leaving because Bella was gone for so long.

Now that prom was around the corner, Angela, Jessica and Bella went out to Port Angeles to go shopping and find their dresses. Bella was disinterested but still provided some opinions here and there to help the other two out. She then said she was going to head to a bookstore and that she’d meet up with them later. It was already dark by then and on her way back she was harassed by a group of men.

Because of Jaspers relatives going to visit them Edward has decided to follow Bella to wherever she goes also creepily watching her as she sleeps. Bella was pressured into going to a school dance so she went shopping for a dress with her friends Jessica and Angela. Edward is watching them and is listening in to see why Bella seems so down. It is later revealed that her friends think it’s because of Edwards behavior

Edward and Emmett decided to go in a trip, earlier than planned because of guests they were having over that Edward wanted to avoid. On their trip Edward and Emmett had a talk about how serious his feeling for Bella were and if he were to ever act upon them. Edward explained his fear of harming/hurting her because of what he is and how fragile she is. They then get in the topic of turning Bella into a vampire.

The bond between Bella and Edward continues growing and Edward finds himself acting about what Bella thinks and relishing in being an object of her affections. Bella wanted him to stay in Forks but he already had a trip planned because prior to meeting with his family to go on a trip and drove her home in his car when he met up with his family they caught a whiff of her scent and the mood went sour.

Edward decided that it was too much effort to go and try to avoid her so he decided to just let it be. He began to sparky up conversations and even outright told her that he would like them to be friends and that if she did it’s best if she remained ignorant for the time being and not wonder so much.

Despite Edward's hot and cold temperament, he finds himself unconsciously wanting to be near Bella and protect her from any harm or uncomfortable situation. Bella at this point is very confused because of all the mixed signals she is receiving and is starting to get saddened at the way Edward is acting. Meanwhile the Cullen family more specifically Alice wants to be well acquainted with Bella but Edward opposes.

Edward continues to switch from giving Bella the cold shoulder to wanting to be around her as a friend and even as a romantic love interest. Still, his worry for possibly hurting her is still running through his mind but his feelings begin to change after seeing so many guys try to court Bella and ask her to the dance they're holding. He becomes more insecure about where he stands in her life and if she felt the same
