Yaḥyā ibn Jaʿfar al-Bīkandī (d. 243 AH) said,
“If I could increase the lifespan of Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl [al-Bukhārī] by sacrificing mine, I would have done so because my death would be the death of one man, but his death would result in the loss of knowledge.”
