I just found a new phrase used that I have never heard before. In thinking of a relative, Ursula mentions “Uncle Herbert had the joint evil in his knees and could neither ride nor walk.” What a great description for arthritis. When I was working as an OT, I think some of my patients would have gotten a kick out of that.

It wasn’t the first time I had returned from a journey and been thankful to see the white cliffs of Dover rise out of the sea. Those cliffs meant home. They meant safety. They meant familiar things, like Hawkswood and the English tongue. They meant hills that sloped at a certain angle, with patches of woodland on them; they meant fields all kinds o shapes, spread over the land like a patchwork coverlet…..
