“Making a life in a foreign context means examining the local culture, values and faith system, turning them over and over and deciding which pieces to adopt and which to let slide as intriguing but not for me. Making a life as an expatriate is not necessarily about living like a local but rather learning to be authentic and comfortable with the ambiguity of sometimes wearing a head scarf and sometimes not.”
