okay yeah i’m done reading, this is pissing me off
author continues to talk about how wonderful octopi are and PRAISES the aquarium she’s at for their naturalistic tanks. COMPLETELY IGNORES the barren holding tanks for young octopi & the 55 gallon drum they held a baby octopus in. she completely disregards the needs of the animal in favor of interacting with it personally and im disgusted.

this book is beginning to not fuck hard, and actually kinda just suck
the author spends SO much time talking about how much she loves these animals & how inspired she is by them. so much time talking about how they NEED enrichment to survive in captivity… and then doesn’t bring up ANYTHING about the ethics of raising them in completely bare tanks??? or in a 55 gallon PICKLE DRUM???

oh my god this book fucks so hard!!! ummm this first chapter is about the author’s relationship with an octopus & how it inspired questions abt What Is It Like To Be You? Can I Even Know? also it talks abt how the idea of “humans are Separate and Better than animals” has caused a lot of research into animal behavior not be published out of fear of being ridiculed and that drives me BONKERS!!
