A fun Thriller to start 2022 with; it’s from 1981, and the plot, involving a killer using a peregrine to commit gruesome murders in New York, does remind me that in 1981 ‘killer animal’ books were popular. Signet Books, and many other imprints, gave us killer crabs, flies, slugs, dogs, bats, cockroaches, leeches, cats, Gila monsters, alligators. This seems to be a Crime novel version of that trend. (Thanks, Jaws!)

Off to a flying start (sorry, bad joke). Bayer was an author I always wanted to get to, way back when - never did, but doing it now, with an award-winner. Meanwhile, the first book I’ll finish in the New Year always tempts me to maybe try intense “theme” or “linked” reading - just one-word titles for a month, just books from the 1980s, just books somehow to do with birds, just books set in New York? Or not.
