Louise says that complete, abundant honesty makes for poor art. Poems should work towards a bigger "truth" (i.e. revelation/illumination/meaning), but the accuracy of individual details isn't important. (In fact, too much self-insertion can come across as egotistical.) And remember, folks—"the speaker" is NOT synonymous with "the author."
