If the priest had called out again, K. would certainly have walked on but. as everything remained quiet all the time he waited, he turned his head slightly yo see what the priest was doing now. He was standing motionless in the pulpit as before, but it was obvious he had noticed the movement of K.'s head. It would have been like a puerile game of hide-and-seek of K. had not turned round completely now.

Finally the director gets up to go; he stayed much longer than originally intended, he is visibly sorry for me but unable to help me, he shows indescribable kindness by waiting at the door for some time, then he goes. I of course was relieved when he went, for I could hardly breathe.
