Falling foul of many of my pet peeves when it comes to bios and in particular the repeated statement of opinion about an author’s work as though it were indisputable fact (e.g “while the novel is flawed”; “this is her least successful novel”; “she was now to start work on what would be her masterpiece”; “this was her last truly great novel” etc etc) ugh piss off

After finishing all her novels this year, am reading this to cap things off. Not particularly great as a bio so far, but as there are no alternatives it will have to do!

I've wanted to read Taylor for a bit but don't know where to start. What do you recommend as a reading order of sorts for a newbie?

Her short stories are excellent, so may be a good place to start if you like that sort of thing. I would say At Mrs Lippencotes, Mrs Palfrey, Wreath of Roses, Hide and Seek or View of the Harbour would all make good entry points - just have a look and see which blurb most appeals
