Just a sidenote - I'm puzzled why the blurb and some reviews mention that it takes place in 1870 when the date at the beginning of the novel clearly says "London 1885." Moreover, there's a landmark mentioned in the novel that wasn't around in 1870, so that date can't be right. Very odd.
