This book was compelling in so many ways, an eye opener to Afghanistan and the people who live there. The story is sad and to find out that Amir is the uncle to Hassan's son because they are brothers was a huge shock. Overall a very simple, but beautiful read. A journey of a man and his past mistakes.

Baba died in this chapter as well as Amir has married the girl he has had his eye's on for a long time. They cannot have kids, but this ends up being a benefit when he realizes that Hassan is his hals brother and is also dead. Now Amir is on a mission to find Hassan's son.

So far as to not give to much away Arif and his friend are having a difficult time with one another. With Arif's win with the kite, he let himself become a coward and because of this he can't be seen with his friend/servant anymore. This conflict has resulted in guilt and has hindered the "relationship" between Baba and Arif.

So far in the story it is clear that Baba and his son have a very tough relationship. Baba expects a lot out of his son and his son has not achieved many of the expectations put in place of him. Also at this point we are at the very beginning when the U.S.S.R takes over Afghanistan and sets up a president.
