I wonder what would happen if Winston talked some sense into a guard. Would he be as shrugged off as another insane radical clamoring for release? Or would his diplomacy check pass? The mere getting attention of someone who has a job to do lessens the likeliness of the persuasion to succeed. It seems that the Brotherhood is just a Thought Police ploy to apprehend thoughtcrime.

Reasoning is clearly not an option. With O'Neil being a traitor, being so stubborn as to disagree with basic addition. I know that Winston is really just a dude with a typewriter, but I still disagree with his reaction to the setting. He retracts from his knowledgeable and capable self to a neolithic barbarian with little to no people skills.

To know that the ration of chocolate has decreased from 30 grams to 20, yet also know and agree with that in "truth" it has been raised from 10 grams to 20. Double thinking. Having memory of the truth of the past yet truthfully lying about the truth of the present, making yourself believe that the here an

"To successfully decept, you must speak in devout belief." I wrote something like that once, in a string of words we call a sentence. To find that Orwell wrote something that I unknowingly paraphrased is surprising and yet a bit saddening as it refers to doublethink, a term in Newspeak that is used to maintain the emotion that you are speaking the entire and complete truth, though the truth may only be the truth in t

h men to hold a ~25~ year war? Bah! Humbug! would be undermining the translucency of their shaky regime that mine and Winston's eyes see thru.

WInston now reads about the potency of atomic bombs, and how they are not used by the three world powers by politeness and honor, because their power is too great for a few men to hold. Again with the peace point. I thought war was peace? Later in the passage, it was said the meaning of war was to provide jobs. Jobs. For War. They can't find enough people to manufacture chocolate and razor blades, but can find enoug

, by an imprisoned king who would be aged beyond the normal lifespan by now. Is Winston's fight a futile one? Does he have an imprisoned king? Is he trying to take an infertile land? Not many agree with Winston's cause at the moment, but he may be the one to do something momentous, something that sways the public into uprising, the very thing that the first thing I talked about, the book, brainwashed them not to do.

waste of time and natural resources.

Also, I find that Winston, who undoubtedly be doing this work in the dark for the Brotherhood, without knowing the who or why that he had been given the task, is similar to a group of people found in the game "The Elder Scrolls V, Skyrim." The Forsworn, who were forced to "forswear" their homeland to other occupants. Now, they attack the city on a moment's notice when told to

The past pages have been about the wars between Oceania and Eastasia, or was it Oceania v.s. Eurasia. No one knows for sure, as no one may be fighting at all. A book Winston has been tasked with revising after Oceania's opponent has changed from Eastasia to Eurasia or the other way around. The "book' talks about how pointless these wars are, and maybe it is the Party controlling the people to think that war itself is

he was opposing the Party. When Winston is there, O'brien offers him some wine, a commodity not seen in the outer Party. I think O'brien, who is introduced as a quick witted calm character, will be the one who loses focus and is accused of thoughtcrime and caught by the thought police, retracting from his role as the well mannered upper-classmen.
