I've heard so much about this book as the definitive historical account on the subject, but I'm already rolling my eyes. Alistair Thorne boasts about how he's the perfect person to write this history because of his neutrality on the issue as a British citizen. However, I'm seeing nothing but a sympathetic account for the French and a relatively drier account for the Algerians. This hasn't been a good start.
