LOL i really on got a few chapters in but it was already very YA tropey, main character is The Maiden who is pure and good and has powers but she doesn't know why she has powers. Beginning of the book is her going to the Red Pearl, which is like...a bar/sex club thing? Because she snuck out and she meets a soldier she's seen before when she's hiding from like her...guardian? And he thinks she's someone else and immediately starts making out with her and she just lets him??? (she's dressed in like a mask and veil, he thinks she's someone else because of the shawl she is wearing) anyways he figures it out and is like wtf why? and she's like idk. And he's like well you wanna continue? And she's like yeah i guess idk. Then he licks her nipple through her nightgown.

Also a lot of info dumping that just made no sense. Writing was also just not great.

thats wild!!! everyone was SCREAMING about how good this books is but reading that paragraph was some of the most cringe ive read. wtf everyone

yeah thats why i put it in my tbr and then i started reading it and i was like huh this is not good and then I actually looked at some of the reviews and consensus was the same so truly not sure how it got so high of a rating
