Big fan of Lawrence Durrell, but really struggled to get into the Avignon Quintet. Kept falling at the first hurdle, Monsieur, but then found you didn't need to read them in order. So read Livia, Constance and now on this. Well into a thoroughly enjoyable journey with these books. Sebastian has some marvellous moments but while still an excellent book, it doesn't have the depth of the previous two I read
