There is a lot of condescending white racism in this book. I’m continuing with the intention of understanding the sequence of events, without taking any of the interpretations as fact. At this point, he’s condemning the ~650 BCE - 100 BCE civ for its savagery, ritualism, and magic - ignoring that the Euro contemporary was the superstitious and militaristic Roman Republic.
