gonna finish this out of pure stubbornness but every page just feels like im getting racism and homophobia explained to me like im 5 in the most sympathetic-to-the-united-states way possible, which like i don’t remember being the standard for YA contemporary but w/e i guess. just very disappointing so far :( hope im proven wrong by the end but should’ve stayed in the drafts i fear

this is genuinely becoming so hard to finish which is sad. half of this book is genuinely insightful and interesting and good character interactions and the other half is incredibly forced plot devices and insert-wise-remark-from-character and also ari being an absolute poet all of a sudden?? have i just turned incredibly cynical since my reread of book 1 earlier this year??

i can’t remember if this was the case in the first book but people in this one just don’t talk like actual people and it’s becoming harder to suspend my disbelief lol

finally taking my own advice and bringing a book with me everywhere so i can read instead of checking my phone
