Jesus warned Peter, James and John not to make or believe premature declarations of the nearness of the end (Lk 21:8) Peter warned: The end of all things has drawn near (1 Pt 4:7) James warned: The coming of the Lord has drawn near (Jm 5:8) John warned: It is the last hour (1 Jn 2:18; Rev 1:1-3) If they were wrong, and the end was not truly near, then they are the very false prophets that Jesus warned them about!

2 Peter 3 says not one word about a cosmic catastrophe that ends time. Instead, it was a divine prediction of the Jewish cataclysm that occurred in 70 AD when Jehovah swept away the last vestiges of the old world of Judaism and consummated His glorious scheme of Redemption. Having accomplished His purpose He now reigns forever over the new heavens and earth wherein dwelleth righteousness, His everlasting kingdom.

"we look for a new heavens and earth, wherein righteousness dwells" (2 PET 3:13) Peter tells his readers that righteousness "makes its home" in the new creation. It is often insisted that this constitutes proof that the new creation can only be heaven. This depreciates the value and glory of the church.

For the writer of Hebrews to affirm "you have come to Mt. Zion," was an incredible statement. Wrapped up in the word "Zion" are all of the eschatalogical and soteriological motifs one could imagine. It said that the time of the resurrection, the Messianic banquet, the judgment and destruction of those who had "violated the everlasting covenant" (ISA 24:5) had come. The climax of Israel's history had arrived.

Most eschatologies place fulfillment of Isaiah 65 in the future. Yet, not one of the futurist eschatologies have room for what Isaiah emphatically predicts, the destruction of Old Covenant Israel, and the creation of a new people. If you're eschatology does not provide for what Isaiah predicted, your eschatology is wrong.
